Let your memory lift this cloud — as I drop this widower's shroud

Grief can become an identity long after it stops being only an emotion. After Grazynka died, I believed suffering proved the depth of my love. The more I hurt, the more faithfully I believed I was carrying her memory. But love and pain are not the same thing. A widower’s shroud can feel like devotion while quietly becoming a prison. Identity defends itself, even when it hurts us. The truth came quietly: I did not need to carry grief to continue carrying love. Her memory could lift the cloud instead of becoming it.

Lyrics

VERSE 1

I woke from a dream So lucid and clear I knew right away The truth was sincere A vision of words so pure They should have broke The silent grief in my love But heard as if God spoke

PRE-CHORUS

My sin no longer needed a sentence And your love was my repentance

CHORUS

My darling I've missed you Each day for a year For each decade we held dear Let your memory lift this cloud As I drop this widower's shroud

VERSE 2

For so long I walked In a dazed confusion Searching for a lost State of illusion But now I see it clear From a whisper in a vision That true love remains And grief was my decision

PRE-CHORUS

My sin no longer needed a sentence And your love was my repentance

CHORUS

My darling I've missed you Each day for a year For each decade we held dear Let your memory lift this cloud As I drop this widower's shroud

BRIDGE

Please rest my love And know I hold you still Through your grace Grief is transformed to fill Others with love Thru an unconditional will

CHORUS

My darling I've missed you Each day for a year For each decade we held dear Let your memory lift this cloud As I drop this widower's shroud

OUTRO

My darling… honey, baby, sweetheart Words of love that tore me apart For they existed only in memory But now when I hear those words I hear the singing of tiny song birds And I'm filled with love and clarity And my memory of you Lifts the lonely dark cloud And I finally drop this widower's shroud
