Then just have faith in me and I will have enough for both of us.
Sometimes love cannot promise a different outcome. It can only promise presence. When I asked Grazynka to have faith in me, I was not asking her to believe the future would unfold as I described it. I was asking her to let me carry hope when she could no longer carry it herself. Her answer was not “I believe you.” Not “You’re right.” Not “Thank you.” Just: “Okay.” It was the word of someone handing me everything she had left. Someone who had loved me long enough to know that my okay and her okay were the same okay. We could not stop time. We could choose how we met it: together.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
It feels just like yesterday This memory that can't be unseen The comedy and tragedy of A love story's Act I of its final scene You lay in our bed, secure In the knowing I was at your side Though the world closed in On the future dreams that we lied
PRE-CHORUS
Anything to get that smile Anything to delay this trial Anything to stretch this endless mile Anything to slow time's marching dial
CHORUS
I said to you Our love was true So just have faith And we'll get through But your faith was lost So to cover the cost I begged you: let your faith in me stay And you looked in my eyes And said okay
VERSE 2
You struggled from within Words fought hard to escape As you battled for each And every breath you could take I spoke of the dreams Of the laughter we would share Alone in the dim light Holding you with gentle care
PRE-CHORUS
Anything to get that smile Anything to delay this trial Anything to stretch this endless mile Anything to slow time's marching dial
BRIDGE
But we knew it wasn't true And that soon I'd lose you But we chose the lie to stay And chose our way to pray
CHORUS
I said to you Our love was true So just have faith And we'll get through But your faith was lost So to cover the cost I begged you: let your faith in me stay And you looked in my eyes And said okay
OUTRO
All you needed to say Was just Okay
